We're going to be part of the
AT Open House again in May this year, so every spare minute is being spent designing and printing, cards and notebook covers. Such great fun!
They'll soon be available on our Etsy

The lovely people at
Print Club are now accepting submissions for
Blisters - The Directors Cut, their
'big end of Summer hand pulled screenprinted poster show'.
As usual the 40 pieces selected from 40 artists will be from a range of 'established and emerging illustrators, designers and street artists', in editions of 40 and sold for £40!
Anyone can enter and the deadline for entries is Sunday 10 June 2012.For those interested, here's the brief:
Submit an alternative movie poster in your own style inspired by your favorite film! The catch is, you cannot use the title of the film at all. Use of other text is allowed of course but it should stand alone as an image, scene or typographic piece, it doesn’t have to be an advertisement for the film!Poster size B2 (700x500mm) and to be screenprinted!More information

I've had this image as inspiration for a few years now and I have no idea were it came from nor did I have any idea what is was. I just liked the bold graphics and quirky type.
Well, how could I not have recognised the work of
Saul Bass (don't worry I am truly ashamed!). It turns out that this is a pic of the cover of an original copy of the only children's book he ever designed - '
Henri's walk to Paris'. A book that he designed with Leonore Klein in 1962 and that has been out of print for many years until now.
"Henri’s Walk to Paris is the story of a young boy who lives in Reboul, France, who dreams of going to Paris. One day, after reading a book about Paris, he decides to pack a lunch and head for the city." As of last week this gorgeous little book is back on the shelves and available
here.

Auto type XX - Lots more gorgeous marques including some English, Italian and American classics. I think these were taken at
Goodwood Revival last year, which is always an amazing gathering of classic cars.
It's been a long, long Winter of no car shows, so I'm already looking forward to the new season!

#122 - Vintage slide rules and dials from the 40's, 50's and 60's. I realised after finding the Nuclear dials and slide collection the other day, that I had only ever posted a few of my own dials and slides.
So here are a few more, from Dial-o-metric to Trigonomotry ratios, there's almost a dial for every occassion!
You can see the rest of my collection
here or have a rummage for the others in our
reference box.

I love slide rules and dial calculators, there are so many you rarely see the same one twice. These complex beauties are from a collection of Nuclear slide rules and dials gathered together by
ORAU (Oak Ridge Associated Universities).
They've got dials to calculate radiation dosage, Nuclear bomb effects, Nuclear weapon effects, x-ray exposure, decay rates, treatment times and Radium exposure. A much more useful collection than mine, which mainly consists of vintage promotional pieces!

I've always been a fan of
Graphis magazine and
Walter Herdeg, so it was great to stumble upon these Graphis covers on
Designers books, many of which I hadn't seen before. They're all fantastic, but it's the really bold, bright ones (above) that I'm most drawn to.
These beauties are from the personal collection of designer and art director, Sébastien Hayez who has 83 issues of Graphis and 15 Graphis annuals! You can see his full collection
here along with lots and lots of other coveted design books - thanks for sharing Sébastien.

#121 - Vintage Tourist Map of Greece.
I love the contrast of the traditional style cover against the gorgeous graphic maps inside - they're so bright and colourful with a very modern feel.
It was designed in March 1967 for The National Tourist Organization of Greece by M Katzourakis.
Shrug off those January blues with some tea, a slice of cake and a dig around in our

Our friends at
Sell! Sell! have been beavering away on a new campaign for
Drambuie -
A Taste Of The Extraordinary. The campaign launches worldwide next year but in the run up to Christmas Londoners are getting a little preview.
We are loving the ads (above), they have such a timeless look that oozes sophistication. Simple yet beautifully weird. Sell! Sell! set out to create imagery that reflected the uniqueness of the drink - a whisky liqueur made from a blend of aged Speyside malt whiskies, spices, heather honey and herbs. Imagery that created intrigue and curiosity.
To create that classic feel, photographer John Ross shot the ads on large format film (yes, that does still exist - just!) and it really makes a difference.
There's so much attention to detail in these ads, that it's the behind the scenes pics that really had me intrigued - seeing how all the elements were shot to create the right shadows and perspective, how the floor was made and how the drip was added. Just see for yourselves...
Great work guys, please post up more behind the scenes pics.
