How great are these old Hoover Electric Washing Machine Instructions? We have a collection of vintage instruction cards and this is one of our favourites. The colour, the quality of the print and the detail of the illustrations are fantastic and for the amount of information on there, it is really well designed.
#6 then - Hoover, Electric Washing Machine Instruction Card

Remember our Ebay bargain, Trademarks & Symbols, Volume 2: Symbolical Designs by Yasaburo Kuwayama, well it arrived today and it is every bit as great as we expected. There are 1500+ marks from all over the world organised into themed sections - the pics above show pages from the Circles, Birds and Eye categories. It's a great piece of reference, so the search is now on for volume 1!

We've just completed another great project with the folks at
Sell! Sell! creating letterpressed-style typography to accompany their period looking ads for Fentimans Botanically Brewed Beverages. There are 4 in total; Cola, Lemonade, Ginger Beer and Dandelion & Burdock.
We are big Fentimans' fans here at Delicious, so it's been a fun job all round.

This is probably the best item that is ever going to be in our 'Things to buy' category - it's the 'Pacific Wheel', the famous Santa Monica Ferris Wheel, which is now on
ebay.
The wheel debuted in May 1966 at the opening of Pacific Park and in 1998 became the world's first solar-powered ferris wheel. It's a great item for those with a giant garden and a lot of spare cash (Bidding is currently at $50,000), but it says in the details that the wheel base is not included in the sale!! What is a buyer going to do with a 90ft high ferris wheel with no base?

Starbucks appear to be undergoing a rebranding exercise, or at least they are in the US - there doesn't seem to be any evidence of it in the Uk. There's lots of confusion on the internet as to the extent of this nostalgic rebrand, but it seems on their cups at least, they have reverted back to the style of their very first, single colour logo with the full graphic of the original twin-tailed mermaid.
According to
Business Week, "Starbucks plans to use the logo on all its cups for about eight weeks. It will remain in ads and as the logo for Pike Place bags of coffee" - their new product.
It seems like an odd thing to do, and although the new/old logo is much more appealing and less corporate looking (which seems to be the strategy) - are consumers really stupid enough to perceive Starbucks as a small boutique coffee brand, by the use of a nostalgic logo for 8 weeks? I really hope not!

Something else from the depths of the Delicious Reference box - one of our vintage photos. This one is superb, it has such great contrast, unfortunately though we have no idea, what type of planes these are, what they are doing flying in a row so close together or who took the picture, but it's still one of our favourites. Enjoy!
So here we are, #5 - vintage, aeroplane photograph

Nike 1/1 is an art competition, this year themed on the Art of football - submit your work for the chance to exhibit in Basel with some of the world's most respected talents (the Nike 1/1 associates). 11 artworks will be selected to exhibit and 1 chosen as the overall winner which will be immortalised on a new limited edition series of Nike Dunks.
It doesn't sound like a great prize to me, but if it's your bag, get those pens and pencils out - oh, and 'Be True' apparently that's the only rule!

For those of you who are not familiar with it, Craphound was a zine created by Sean Tejaratchi, each one themed and filled from cover to cover with line art and clip art in b&w. We are big fans here at Delicious, they are fantastic, and through the late 90's Sean created 6 in total.
We recently found out that in 2005 issues #5 and #6 where re-published by Show & Tell Press in Portland, and that there is now a #7: part 1 currently available and a #7: part 2 on the way. Yeah!
Reading Frenzy have copies of #6 and #7: part 1 in their online store if anyone wants one.
Meanwhile there is a great article all about Craphound and an interview with it's creator on
Ping Mag.
