Fentimans Botanically Brewed Beverages

We've just completed another great project with the folks at Sell! Sell! creating letterpressed-style typography to accompany their period looking ads for Fentimans Botanically Brewed Beverages. There are 4 in total; Cola, Lemonade, Ginger Beer and Dandelion & Burdock.

We are big Fentimans' fans here at Delicious, so it's been a fun job all round.

So you think you know your Gill from your Frutiger…

Have a go at this type quiz. It's tough. A couple, I'm ashamed to say, I have never even heard of. Still 27/34 is above average according to their stats. Come on GMan, I challenge you to take the quiz - no cheating now!

Design & Typography resource

Typogabor has a great collection of scanned in design and typography books as well as 'tributes' to the great Lou Dorfsmann and Herb Lubalin which are collections of some of their best work. It's a really good resource as books like the 'Top Symbols & Trademarks' are such good reference yet so hard to come by.

From the reference box #4

Here we have some vintage wine labels that have been in the Delicious reference box for quite a long time now. The quirky typography and great print quality make them far more interesting than most wine labels today. I am particularly fond of the very simple 'Bordeaux, Supérieur' and 'Vin Blanc, Moelleux' labels.

So here they are #4 - Vintage wine labels

Create your own fonts

Ever fancied designing your own typeface but didn't quite have the technical know how to make it work? Well the very kind people at Fontshop have created 'Fontstruct' a free font-building tool where fonts can be constructed using geometric shapes in a grid-like pattern. Once complete it is turned into a working true-type font ready to use on either Mac or Windows systems. I wonder how well it works? I guess there is only one way to find out...

This fantastic book is the handiwork of French designer, Marion Bataille. This is a mock-up of the book videoed by staff at Roaring Brook Press, who are publishing it in October this year.

PS. the music is 'Roll On' by the Boswell Sisters.

Gastrotypographicalassemblage!

This is the 35 x 8ft, typographical wall of the CBS Building cafeteria circa. 1966, created by Lou Dorfsman. It was removed in the 80's, but this 9 panel masterpiece is now being lovingly restored by New York designer, Nick Fasciano and the Center for Design Study.
