Kraków Poster Gallery

Czwarta Pani AndersonAndrzej Krajewski, 1973

Ryan over at Sell! Sell! sent me a great link yesterday to the Galeria Plakatu Kraków (Kraków Poster Gallery). I've always been a fan of Polish circus posters (CYRK) especially the Hubert Hilscher ones and was asking Ryan if he had seen any on his recent visit to Kraków.

The gallery is apparently very small, but stacked to the rafters with film, theatre, political, music and circus posters from the 50's right up to the late 80's - the golden era of the Polish School of Posters, "the Polish Government financially supported and encouraged poster art. Posters became the primary art form of the nation. The art of Polish posters attained international fame, becoming established as the best in contemporary/vintage poster art".

Luckily for those of us not visiting Poland in the near future, they have an equally fully stocked online shop with very reasonable prices. Above are a selection of my favourites.
